Introductory Statement
Purpose
The purpose of this portfolio is to share with the world the lessons I have learned preparing for post-COVID-19 return to work with two separate organizations. This is a tenuous time in my field. Workers may be excited about rejoining the office, but they may be apprehensive as well. Some people may not want to come back at all. As an audio engineer, I know that when audiovisual systems are not used they can lose functionality. My team at George Washington University successfully prepared over 800 classrooms, labs, and conference rooms for the fall 2021 semester, which was in-person. At my current organization, I am the sole technician responsible for the Washington, D.C. office and we returned to the office (2-3 days a week for most associates) March 1, 2022. The question this portfolio seeks to answer is, how can we educate colleagues about the new normal work structure and how technology can be used to connect collaborators, expand communication options, and lessen stress.
This question has all the elements outlined in the text. It is "Practice-based…Professionally relevant…Significant…Honest…[and] Precisely stated" (Kilbane and Milman, 48). Instead of addressing individual standards, this portfolio will center around the above question, and will also be framed around a timeline of my love of music, to show to development of my career from audiovisual into instructional design. It may not seem like a straight path, but all of this experience is relevant.
